DESCRIPTION:

The Byzantine is one of the oldest chain patterns still made by hand, and one of the few that cannot be machine-produced. Each link is threaded through four others in a repeating interlock, which is what gives the chain its dense, rope-like body and the woven texture running its whole length. There is no front or back — it reads the same from every angle and rolls without twisting.

Solid 14K white gold, high polished. At 4mm the pattern stays tight and defined rather than loose, and the 47.9 grams in the 20 inch tells you it is solid through — the weight is in the links, not in bulk. Flexible enough to drape properly on the neck, dense enough to carry a pendant without distorting.
